Bukhara

Bukhara was a major oasis city on the Silk Road and retains a dense historic centre of mosques, madrasas, caravanserais and covered markets. Monumental religious buildings rise around public squares, while quieter residential lanes preserve courtyards and low mud-brick houses. The old city remains compact enough to explore largely on foot.

Craft workshops, tea houses and family-run guesthouses occupy many restored buildings, keeping the centre active beyond its monuments. Evening light softens the brick and tilework, and public squares become social gathering places. Restoration has made some areas polished, but smaller streets still convey the scale and texture of the former oasis city.
