OVERVIEW
Khajuraho is a small town in central India, known for a group of Hindu and Jain temples covered in exceptionally detailed stone carving. The surviving monuments represent only part of a once larger sacred landscape, yet their sculpture ranges across religion, daily life and human relationships. Across the wider area, temples remains closely connected with surrounding countryside, rather than forming an isolated visitor zone.
The town is calm beyond the temple zone, with nearby villages and countryside adding context. Early and late light reveal the carving most clearly, while slower visits allow the sculpture to be understood as part of a complete architectural programme. Routes through villages lead naturally towards central streets, so the experience changes without requiring long transfers.

THINGS TO DO
Explore Devi Jagdamba Temple
Explore Devi Jagdamba Temple to understand the ancient settlement, belief or engineering that shaped Khajuraho. Allow enough time to read the site rather than treating it as a photo stop.
Admire Chitragupta Temple
Look closely at Chitragupta Temple for a concrete introduction to Khajuraho’s built character. Notice the materials, street setting and later changes as well as the main façade.
Trace local history at Archaeology Museum
Use Archaeology Museum to understand a specific part of Khajuraho’s past rather than viewing it without context. Allow time for interpretation, not only the most photographed exterior.
