OVERVIEW
Kei Islands is a group of islands in eastern Indonesia, known for long white beaches, coral reefs and small communities spread across forested coasts. Tourism remains limited, while fishing, boat building and customary village life continue to shape the local economy. Across the wider area, forest remains closely connected with beaches, rather than forming an isolated visitor zone, with forest providing an additional point of connection.
Reaching the islands requires effort, but the low visitor density preserves an unusual sense of calm. Village stays and local boat journeys provide a fuller experience than remaining only on the most accessible beaches. A visit centred only on island interior would overlook forest, where the wider landscape and local activity remain visible.
