OVERVIEW
Kavala is a coastal city in northern Greece, climbing steep slopes around a broad harbour and dominated by a large historic aqueduct. An old quarter of stone houses and Ottoman buildings occupies the peninsula above the port, while modern neighbourhoods extend along the coast. The wider setting extends from coast towards beaches, with roads and communities linking the two.
Seafood, beaches and ferry connections add variety, but the city’s layered hillside form is its clearest distinction. Walking from the harbour to the old quarter reveals constant changes in elevation, architecture and views across the northern Aegean. Coast draws most attention, while local food provides a quieter and more local dimension.
