OVERVIEW
Kangerlussuaq is a small settlement in western Greenland, positioned at the head of a long fjord and close to the edge of the inland ice sheet. Roads extend farther into the interior than almost anywhere else in the territory, creating unusual access to tundra, glaciers and wildlife. Across the wider area, glaciers remains closely connected with wildlife habitats, rather than forming an isolated visitor zone.
The town itself is functional, but its dry climate and open terrain make it a valuable base for hiking, wildlife viewing and northern lights. Excursions towards the ice sheet reveal the transition from tundra and glacial valley to an apparently endless frozen interior. Surrounding countryside draws most attention, but wildlife habitats contributes equally to the destination’s character and daily life.
