Kampala is a large capital spread across rolling hills near Lake Victoria, with government districts, busy markets and dense residential neighbourhoods connected by heavily trafficked roads. Food, nightlife and contemporary music provide the strongest sense of urban energy, while museums and religious landmarks add historical context. Away from the principal landmarks, residential districts gives way gradually to lake shore across the wider area.
