Hurghada is a large resort city on Egypt’s Red Sea coast, with hotels, marinas and residential districts stretching along the shoreline. The older fishing port remains active, while newer resort zones dominate tourism. Coral reefs and offshore islands provide the main natural attraction. The destination is physically divided between islands and desert terrain, with roads and settlements linking the two.

Diving, snorkelling and boat trips form the core of most visits. The city is highly developed and often busy, with limited historic character. Desert excursions and quieter southern beaches provide useful alternatives to the central resort strip. Beaches is encountered differently from coast, making it worthwhile to leave time for both parts of the destination, with islands providing an additional point of connection.
