OVERVIEW
Höfn is a small town on Iceland’s south eastern coast, set beside a broad lagoon and surrounded by flat glacial outwash plains. Fishing and seafood remain central to local life, while nearby roads provide views towards Europe’s largest ice cap. The town itself is modern, practical and low rise. The destination is physically divided between lagoons and lagoon, with roads and settlements linking the two.
Most visitors use the harbour as a base for glacier lagoons, coastal drives and mountain scenery. Seafood restaurants and local museums add modest urban interest. Weather changes rapidly, but the wide horizons and constant presence of ice give the area an exceptional sense of scale. The strongest contrast comes between lagoons and glaciers, which support different activities and daily rhythms.
