OVERVIEW
Guardalavaca is a small resort area on Cuba’s north eastern coast, known for broad beaches, coral reefs and low wooded hills. Hotels and holiday facilities are spread along several bays, while nearby villages and archaeological sites provide local context. The area is more relaxed than the largest resort zones. Away from the principal landmarks, reef gives way gradually to reefs across the wider area.
Swimming, snorkelling and beach time dominate most stays. Excursions to rural communities and historic sites add variety. Independent dining and nightlife remain limited outside the hotel areas. Quieter coves and nearby villages provide a more local contrast with the main resort beaches. The contrast between reefs and bay becomes clearest when more than one part of the destination is explored.
