OVERVIEW
Gorges du Verdon is a deep limestone gorge in southern France, carved by a vivid blue green river. Roads follow both rims, providing viewpoints over cliffs and narrow water, while small villages and lakes sit at either end. Walking routes descend into the canyon and cross exposed terrain. The wider destination extends from canyon walls towards cliffs, with local communities occupying the ground between them.
Kayaking and paddle boats provide a gentler view from the lower water, while longer hikes demand fitness and preparation. Summer traffic and parking can be difficult, with lakes and lake shore providing the wider context. Early starts and a base near one section make the landscape much easier to explore.
