Golden Isles

The Golden Isles are a small group of barrier islands and coastal communities in Georgia, surrounded by salt marsh and tidal creeks. Beaches, maritime forest and historic estates create a varied landscape, while nearby mainland towns provide services. The islands differ in development, access and atmosphere. Away from the principal landmarks, island interior gives way gradually to coast across the wider area, with beaches providing an additional point of connection.

Cycling, beach walks and wildlife viewing are easy to combine. Some islands are highly private, while others have public beaches, resorts and residential communities. The marshes are especially striking at sunrise and sunset, when changing light reveals their scale. Local ferries and small boat routes are part of the experience rather than merely practical transport.
