OVERVIEW
Fernando de Noronha is a small volcanic archipelago off the north eastern coast of Brazil. Steep hills, rocky bays and protected beaches support dolphins, sea turtles and abundant reef life. Visitor numbers, access fees and conservation rules limit pressure on the fragile environment. Settlement and movement follow the transition between coast and reef across the wider area.
Diving and snorkelling offer exceptional visibility, while beaches such as Baía do Sancho combine steep access with protected water and abundant marine life. Entry fees, trail bookings and limits on visitor numbers require advance planning. Accommodation is expensive, but the controls help protect dolphins, turtles and nesting seabirds.
