OVERVIEW
Etosha is a large protected area in northern Namibia, centred on an immense salt pan visible from great distances. Dry woodland, grassland and waterholes support elephants, lions, rhinos and large herds of antelope. Roads connect camps and viewing areas around the southern and eastern edges.
Wildlife viewing is especially effective at waterholes during the dry season, when animals gather in predictable locations. Self drive travel is straightforward on the main roads, though distances are long and dust is constant. The pale pan and open horizons give the reserve a visual character unlike greener safari regions.

THINGS TO DO
See Etosha’s savanna panoramas
Set aside time at Etosha’s savanna panoramas specifically for the natural panorama, not merely as a stop between activities. Visibility and access can change with weather and season.
Drive Etosha’s scenic roads
Build a manageable drive through Etosha’s scenic roads, allowing for stops and slower roads. In a destination as spread out as Etosha, choose a route that works from your base.
Road Trips
Half or full day
Take a game drive in Etosha
Take a guided game drive in Etosha’s principal game-viewing area, using local expertise to understand habitats and animal behaviour. Wildlife moves freely, so no species or sighting should be guaranteed.
