OVERVIEW
Eskişehir is a university city in western Turkey, built along the Porsuk River. Parks, pedestrian bridges and renovated riverfront districts give the centre a relaxed appearance, while former industrial areas have been reused for museums and cultural venues. Ottoman houses survive in an older hillside neighbourhood.
Student life keeps cafés, bars and the landscaped riverfront active throughout the day. Museums cover contemporary art, archaeology and local craft, especially carving in a distinctive soft mineral. Modern public spaces and restored historic houses sit comfortably together, giving the city an approachable character that differs from both traditional inland towns and larger commercial centres.
