OVERVIEW

The Ennedi Plateau rises from the Sahara in north eastern Chad, with cliffs, towers and natural arches carved into sandstone. Seasonal waterholes support wildlife and nomadic communities, while rock shelters preserve thousands of prehistoric paintings and engravings. The landscape is vast, isolated and almost entirely roadless.

Travel requires experienced expedition teams, large fuel and water reserves, and careful security planning.
