OVERVIEW
Door County occupies a long peninsula in Wisconsin, with Lake Michigan on one side and Green Bay on the other. Forests, orchards, limestone cliffs and sheltered harbours shape a chain of small towns and villages. Historic lighthouses, state parks and ferry routes add a maritime character that extends to several offshore islands.
Summer brings boating, cycling and busy waterfront streets, while autumn colour and spring blossoms create quieter seasonal visits. Fish boils, local cherries and independent galleries form part of the regional identity. Distances are manageable, but staying in one or two towns gives more time for shoreline walks and less time on the main road.
