OVERVIEW
Dakhla lies on a narrow peninsula extending into the Atlantic, with a shallow lagoon on one side and open ocean on the other. The town is functional and spread out, while camps and water-sports centres occupy more isolated sections of the shore. Desert plains extend far inland with little settlement.
Kitesurfing is the principal attraction because of steady wind and flat lagoon water. Fishing, birdlife and desert excursions provide alternatives, while the ocean coast offers stronger surf. Distances and exposure make organised transport useful, and the landscape feels more remote than the town itself. Bird migration and seafood from the lagoon add further interest beyond sport.

THINGS TO DO
Look for birdlife in Dakhla
Look for wildlife around Dakhla’s birdlife with attention to habitat and responsible viewing distances. Seasons affect animal movement, and wild sightings should never be guaranteed.
Fish Dakhla’s principal waters
Arrange a legal fishing trip around Dakhla’s principal fishing waters with local guidance on seasons, permits and suitable methods. Weather and catches vary, so the experience should not promise a particular result.
Surf at Dakhla’s best-known surf break only in conditions suited to your ability. Breaks, currents and access vary by season, and unfamiliar locations are best approached with local advice.
Kitesurf at Dakhla’s main kitesurfing area only in wind and water conditions suited to your ability. Local instruction is important where launch areas, currents or seasonal winds are unfamiliar.
