OVERVIEW
The Costa Blanca stretches along a broad section of eastern Spain, combining developed beach cities, smaller coastal towns and rugged inland hills. Long sandy bays alternate with rocky coves, while historic centres and modern apartment districts sit close together. The northern coast is generally more mountainous than the flatter south.
Different bases create very different trips, from lively urban beaches to quieter coves and older inland towns. Summer is busy and highly developed around the largest resorts, while mountain roads and smaller coastal communities retain more local character. The long shoreline makes a car useful, and choosing one section prevents the holiday from becoming a sequence of long transfers.
