OVERVIEW
Alicante is a city on Spain’s south-eastern coast, built around a harbour and overlooked by a large hilltop castle. A broad promenade, urban beaches and commercial streets connect the waterfront with the older centre. Residential neighbourhoods climb the surrounding slopes, while the dry landscape and intense light give the city a recognisable Mediterranean setting.
The hilltop castle reveals how the urban area sits between dry inland hills and the Mediterranean. At street level, markets, seafood restaurants and evening promenades create an easy daily routine. Beaches and boat trips are important, but museums, residential neighbourhoods and good regional connections make the city more than a simple resort.
