OVERVIEW
Bumthang Valley refers to a group of fertile valleys in central Bhutan, where temples, monasteries and traditional villages lie among fields and pine forest. The main settlement, Jakar, provides small hotels and services, while religious sites are spread along roads and walking paths across the wider area. The altitude brings cool weather and open mountain views.
Monks, farmers and local families use many of the same temples that visitors come to see, while small workshops produce cheese, honey and traditional textiles. The valleys are more spacious than the steep landscapes found elsewhere, making walks between villages and sacred sites a central part of the experience.
