OVERVIEW
Brașov lies in a broad mountain basin, with a compact medieval centre beneath forested slopes. Colourful merchant houses surround the main square, while surviving walls, towers and a large Gothic church reflect the city’s Saxon trading history. Modern neighbourhoods extend across the valley beyond the old defensive core.
The centre is walkable and active with cafés, restaurants and small museums, while trails climb directly into the hills above town. Nearby castles, fortified villages and ski areas make the city a practical regional base. Tourism is well established, but residential streets and local markets remain close to the principal sights.

THINGS TO DO
Hike around Carpathian Mountains
Choose a walk around Carpathian Mountains that matches your time, fitness and current conditions. Check the route and weather locally instead of assuming every trail is accessible year-round.
Hiking
2 hours to full day
Look closely at The Black Church for a concrete introduction to Brașov’s built character. Notice the materials, street setting and later changes as well as the main façade.
Trace local history at County History Museum
Use County History Museum to understand a specific part of Brașov’s past rather than viewing it without context. Allow time for interpretation, not only the most photographed exterior.
