Boundary Waters

The Boundary Waters is a vast lake and forest region along the border between Minnesota and Ontario. Thousands of waterways are linked by short overland carries, allowing canoe travel deep into country with few roads or permanent buildings. Granite outcrops, pine woodland and wetlands support moose, wolves, beavers and abundant birdlife.

Trips are built around paddling, portaging and simple campsites reached only by water. Weather, insects and navigation require preparation, while permits control access during the main season. The absence of motor traffic in most areas creates exceptional quiet, and nights often bring clear skies and strong chances of seeing the northern lights.
