OVERVIEW
Boquete sits in a fertile valley in western Panama, surrounded by steep mountains and coffee plantations. Its cooler climate supports flowers, vegetables and some of the world’s most highly regarded coffee. The compact centre contains cafés, markets and small hotels, while trails and farms spread along roads climbing into cloud forest.
Farm visits explain how altitude, soil and processing shape local coffee, while hiking routes lead towards waterfalls and the slopes of the country’s highest mountain. Birdwatching is especially strong, including chances to see resplendent quetzals. Rapid development has brought more restaurants and accommodation, but the surrounding agricultural landscape remains central.
