OVERVIEW
Bohuslän is a long coastal region in western Sweden, broken into thousands of rocky islands, skerries and narrow channels. Fishing villages with wooden houses line sheltered harbours, while bare granite slopes rise directly from the sea. Larger towns provide services, but the region’s character is spread across many small settlements.
Kayaking and sailing reveal the coastline most clearly, passing reefs, bird colonies and quiet coves. Seafood, especially shellfish, remains central to local identity and restaurant culture. Summer brings busy harbours and holiday homes, while other seasons feel far quieter and more exposed to wind and changing weather.
