OVERVIEW
Big Sky is a mountain resort community in south-west Montana, set between broad valleys and steep peaks north of Yellowstone. The main ski area spreads across several ridges below Lone Mountain, while lodging, restaurants and shops are divided between a base village and lower settlement areas. Forests and open meadows surround the developed zones.
Winter is dominated by skiing and snowboarding across a very large lift network. In summer, hiking, mountain biking, rafting and fly-fishing take over, with wildlife often visible in the wider valley. The resort is highly developed but dispersed, and a car is useful for moving between accommodation, trailheads and dining areas.
