OVERVIEW
Berbera is a historic port on the Gulf of Aden, with an old quarter of coral-stone houses, arcades and weathered warehouses near the waterfront. Its harbour has linked the Horn of Africa with Arabia for centuries, while long beaches and clear water extend beyond the town. The dry coastal setting is framed by rugged hills rising inland.
The old port, Ottoman era buildings and nearby beaches can be combined in a short stay, but visitor infrastructure is limited. Local guides are valuable for understanding the city’s trading history and for arranging travel beyond the centre. Current security conditions and access requirements should be checked carefully before any journey.
