OVERVIEW
Beihai lies on the Gulf of Tonkin in southern China, with a long shoreline and a warm subtropical climate. The city developed as a nineteenth-century trading port, leaving an old quarter of arcaded buildings alongside modern residential districts and beach resorts. Ferries connect the mainland with nearby Weizhou Island, known for volcanic cliffs and coastal scenery.
Beach areas can be busy during domestic holiday periods, while the older streets offer a more compact urban experience. Seafood markets and restaurants are central to local life. The city is less internationally known than many Chinese coastal destinations, but its combination of port history, beaches and island access gives it a clear regional role.

THINGS TO DO
Taste local seafood in Beihai
Use Beihai’s local seafood as a starting point for tasting food connected to Beihai, choosing regional dishes or produce rather than a generic international meal. Opening days may shape the plan.
Trace local history at Underwater World
Use Underwater World to understand a specific part of Beihai’s past rather than viewing it without context. Allow time for interpretation, not only the most photographed exterior.
Spend time at Silver Beach rather than treating every nearby beach as interchangeable. Swimming conditions, access and facilities can vary, so check locally before entering the water.
