OVERVIEW
Baños de Agua Santa sits in a narrow valley on the eastern slope of the Andes, below an active volcano and beside a fast-flowing river. Waterfalls descend through the surrounding cloud forest, while thermal springs feed public baths in and around the town. A dense centre of hotels, restaurants and activity operators supports a large domestic and international visitor economy.
Cycling, rafting, canyoning and short hikes are easy to arrange, with many routes following the road towards the Amazon lowlands. The town can feel busy and commercial, especially at weekends, but the surrounding terrain is genuinely dramatic. Volcanic activity and heavy rain can affect access, so local conditions matter more than a fixed itinerary.
