Aqaba occupies Jordan’s short stretch of Red Sea coast, squeezed between desert mountains and neighbouring national borders. The city contains a working port, beach resorts, markets and a small number of historic remains, but its strongest attractions lie offshore. Coral reefs can be reached by boat or directly from the southern shore, supporting diving and snorkelling in generally warm, clear water.
Public beaches, private beach clubs and dive sites offer different ways to reach the sea, while the centre provides seafood, shopping and everyday neighbourhood life. Inland routes connect naturally with Petra and desert landscapes, yet coral reefs and warm water give the port a clear reason to stay rather than use it only as a transit point.
