OVERVIEW
Waza is a protected savanna region in northern Cameroon, with grasslands, woodland and wetlands supporting elephants, antelope and birdlife. Nearby communities remain closely connected to the wider landscape. Away from the main centre, open floodplains gives way gradually to dry woodland and sahelian wildlife across a remote savanna shaped by seasonal water, with local communities occupying the landscape between them.
Wildlife conditions vary strongly with rainfall and water availability. Access and security should be assessed carefully with experienced local operators, while expectations should remain realistic in a region facing environmental and human pressure. The connection between open floodplains and dry woodland and sahelian wildlife across a remote savanna shaped by seasonal water becomes clearest when the destination is explored at a slower pace.
