OVERVIEW
Utila is a small island off Honduras’s Caribbean coast, with a low main settlement, mangroves and coral reefs surrounding shallow water. Diving and fishing support much of the local economy. The relationship between reef diving, sandy village roads and a relaxed island atmosphere across a compact caribbean community and island gives the wider destination a distinctive structure beyond its principal visitor area.
Snorkelling, diving and cycling provide the main experiences, while prices remain lower than on many neighbouring islands, while boat access and weather shape travel. Spending time with both reef diving and sandy village roads and a relaxed island atmosphere across a compact caribbean community reveals more of the destination than focusing only on its best known sights.

THINGS TO DO
Cycle Utila’s principal route
Choose a cycling route around Utila’s principal cycling route that matches your fitness and the available time. Check gradients, surfaces and traffic rather than judging the ride by distance alone.
Cycling
2 hours to full day
Snorkel around Utila’s principal snorkelling waters only when sea conditions and access are suitable. Use local guidance where currents or reefs are unfamiliar, and never promise particular marine-life sightings.
Dive at Bay Islands College of Diving
Dive around Bay Islands College of Diving with an operator suited to your certification and experience. Visibility, currents and access change with conditions, and particular sightings are never guaranteed.
