OVERVIEW
Seoraksan is a mountain region in north eastern South Korea, with sharp granite ridges, waterfalls and forest surrounding several temple sites. Roads and cable cars provide access to selected valleys. Local communities occupy the ground between high slopes and mountain settlements, keeping the broader landscape active. The transition between mountain settlements and high slopes remains visible away from the principal visitor routes.
Hiking ranges from easy riverside walks to exposed summit routes, while autumn brings heavy crowds. Early starts and shoulder seasons offer a calmer experience. Mountain settlements is experienced differently from lower valleys, so both areas contribute separate perspectives. Time spent around lower valleys also brings mountain settlements into view, adding another layer to the visit.
