OVERVIEW
Sapo is a large rainforest region in south eastern Liberia, with old growth forest, rivers and wetlands supporting pygmy hippos, primates and diverse birdlife. Local communities remain closely connected to the forest edge. The transition between nearby communities and river corridors remains visible away from the principal visitor routes. Beyond the main centre, nearby communities and river corridors continue to shape settlement and movement across the wider destination.
Access requires experienced guides and careful logistics, while wildlife sightings are never guaranteed. The remoteness and ecological importance make responsible, low impact travel essential. River corridors is experienced differently from nearby communities, so both areas contribute separate perspectives. Time spent around river corridors also brings nearby communities into view, adding another layer to the visit.
