OVERVIEW
Riviera Nayarit is a long coastal region in western Mexico, with resort developments, small towns and forested headlands spread around open beaches and sheltered bays. Fishing, agriculture and tourism coexist across a coastline that varies greatly in scale. Roads and settlements follow the relationship between forest and villages, revealing how the wider area is organised.
Surfing, boat trips and seafood shape most visits, while inland villages and mangrove areas provide quieter alternatives. Distances are substantial, making one or two bases more practical than continuous coastal travel. Time spent around local food also brings forest into view, adding a distinct second layer to the visit. Conditions around local food can differ noticeably from those near shoreline, making flexible timing useful.
