OVERVIEW
Rasht is a large city in northern Iran, set within a humid agricultural plain of rice fields, tea and forest. Markets, residential districts and regional trade shape the urban centre. Frequent rain supports one of the country’s greenest agricultural regions, with rice paddies and tea gardens surrounding the city. Dense suburbs now spread across former agricultural land around the centre.
Food is the strongest cultural draw, with herbs, fish and regional dishes prominent in markets and restaurants. Official travel guidance should be reviewed before arranging a visit. The central bazaar is open and highly social, bringing regional produce, pickles and fresh herbs directly into everyday urban life. Nearby wetlands and the Caspian shore extend the experience beyond the city.

THINGS TO DO
Trace Rasht’s historic sites
Use Rasht’s historic sites to understand a specific part of Rasht’s past rather than viewing it without context. Allow time for interpretation, not only the most photographed exterior.
Browse Rasht’s main bazaar
Browse Rasht’s main bazaar for goods connected to Rasht, focusing on local makers, produce or established specialities. Check market days and avoid assuming every stall is locally made.
Use Rasht’s local tea as a starting point for tasting food connected to Rasht, choosing regional dishes or produce rather than a generic international meal. Opening days may shape the plan.
