OVERVIEW
Puebla is a major city in central Mexico, with a formal colonial centre, ornate churches and extensive modern districts. Ceramic production, religious architecture and regional cuisine remain central to its identity. Talavera tiles cover façades, fountains and interiors, creating a visual language closely connected with local craft production. Industrial suburbs now occupy much of the surrounding high valley.
Food is a major reason to visit, from complex sauces to sweets and market dishes. Museums and neighbourhood streets provide depth beyond the monumental centre, while nearby towns add strong craft traditions. The surrounding valley contains important monastic towns and archaeological sites, giving the city a wider historical setting beneath the volcanoes.
