OVERVIEW
Port Antonio is a small town on Jamaica’s north eastern coast, with a working harbour, market streets and residential neighbourhoods backed by steep green hills. Rivers, lagoons and beaches lie close to the urban centre. The harbour once supported banana exports and international shipping, leaving villas and civic buildings among the modern working streets. Small communities extend inland along roads following the river valleys.
Swimming, rafting and coastal drives provide varied ways to experience the landscape. Tourism is smaller in scale than in major resort areas, allowing food, community life and the working waterfront to remain visible. Rainfall keeps the surrounding landscape intensely green, feeding rivers and waterfalls that reach the coast through narrow forested valleys.
