OVERVIEW
Omaha is a large city on the Missouri River, with a compact downtown, historic warehouse districts and residential neighbourhoods spreading westward across rolling plains. Transport, agriculture and finance have shaped its growth. Beyond the central area, neighbourhoods and river continue to organise settlement, movement and everyday land use. Settlement follows the relationship between markets and museums, which remains visible beyond the main visitor routes.
Markets, museums and local restaurants provide the strongest experiences, while riverfront parks add a more open urban space. The city is dispersed, but central districts are increasingly walkable. Museums is encountered differently from neighbourhoods, making it worthwhile to leave time for both parts of the destination. Time spent around river also brings markets into view, adding a different layer to the visit, with residential districts providing an additional point of connection.
