OVERVIEW
Nyerere is a vast savanna and river region in southern Tanzania, with woodland, wetlands and broad waterways supporting elephants, predators and diverse birdlife. Camps are widely dispersed across a huge protected area. Away from the principal landmarks, wildlife habitats gives way gradually to river across the wider area. Savanna and wildlife habitats belong to the same connected landscape, although they often feel distinct on arrival.
Boat trips and game drives reveal different ecosystems, while long distances create a strong sense of wilderness. Reliable operators and careful logistics are essential because camps, roads and wildlife areas remain widely dispersed across the protected region. Longer stays make it easier to explore beyond the principal river corridors and camp areas.
