OVERVIEW
North York Moors is a highland region in northern England, with open heather plateaux, wooded valleys and a rugged coastline. Farms, historic villages and railway routes remain closely integrated with the landscape. Settlement follows the relationship between coast and farms, which remains visible beyond the main visitor routes. The wider destination extends from forest towards villages, with local communities occupying the ground between them.
Walking and scenic drives reveal strong contrasts between moor, forest and sea. Choosing one section allows more time for village streets and quieter trails. Routes through coast lead naturally towards railway heritage, so the experience changes without requiring long transfers. Farms is encountered differently from railway heritage, making it worthwhile to leave time for both parts of the destination.
