OVERVIEW
Naxos is a large Cycladic island with a lively harbour town, fertile interior valleys and mountain settlements connected by winding roads. Ancient sites, farms and beaches are spread widely across the landscape. The transition between coast and beaches is visible across the destination, especially away from its best known centre, with islands providing an additional point of connection.
Driving and walking reveal a more rural character than on many neighbouring islands. Local cheese, potatoes and village food add substantial depth beyond the coast. Time spent around mountain terrain also brings beaches into view, adding a different layer to the visit, with coast providing an additional point of connection.
