OVERVIEW
Mahé is the largest island in the Seychelles, with steep forested hills, winding coastal roads and numerous beaches. The capital, residential districts and most national services are concentrated along the eastern coast. Across the wider area, mountain terrain remains closely connected with coast, rather than forming an isolated visitor zone, with bay providing an additional point of connection.
Driving and hiking reveal rapid changes between urban areas, mountain forest and quiet bays. Choosing more than one base reduces travel and provides a fuller view of the island. Coast draws most attention, but mountain terrain contributes equally to the destination’s character and daily life. The strongest contrast comes between coast and mountain terrain, which support different activities and daily rhythms.
