OVERVIEW
Lagos is Nigeria’s largest city, spread across islands, lagoons and mainland districts linked by crowded bridges. Business centres, residential neighbourhoods and informal settlements form one of Africa’s most dynamic urban regions. Away from the principal landmarks, neighbourhoods gives way gradually to island interior across the wider area. Islands and island interior belong to the same connected landscape, although they often feel distinct on arrival.
Music, art, fashion and food provide the strongest cultural experiences. Traffic and safety conditions require careful planning, while focused exploration of selected districts is far more realistic than attempting the whole metropolis. Time spent around lagoon also brings lagoons into view, adding a different layer to the visit. The strongest contrast comes between island interior and islands, which support different activities and daily rhythms.
