OVERVIEW
Koh Yao is a pair of inhabited islands in Phang Nga Bay, with farming communities, mangroves and low key beaches facing dramatic limestone scenery. Tourism remains smaller in scale than on neighbouring resort islands, allowing village life and agricultural landscapes to remain visible. Beyond the central area, coast and mangroves continue to organise settlement, movement and everyday land use.
Scooters and boats provide the best access, while nightlife is limited. The islands are most rewarding for travellers interested in village roads, quiet bays and views across the surrounding limestone seascape. A visit centred only on beaches would overlook mangroves, where the wider landscape and local activity remain visible. The relationship between beaches and islands adds variety without requiring long transfers.
