OVERVIEW
Koh Chang is a mountainous island in eastern Thailand, with dense forest in the interior and resort development concentrated mainly along the western coast. Beaches, waterfalls and boat trips provide the main activities, while the eastern side remains more rural and lightly visited. Mountain terrain occupies a different part of the destination from bay, giving the wider area a clear physical structure.
Roads are steep and winding, making careful base selection useful. Spending time on both sides of the island reveals the contrast between developed beaches, fishing communities and quieter forested bays. Quieter eastern villages provide a useful contrast with the developed western beach strip. Conditions around waterfalls differ from those near forest, making flexible timing useful, particularly where waterfalls meets forest.

THINGS TO DO
Cruise Koh Chang’s main waterways
Choose a boat trip that gives a clear view of Koh Chang’s main waterways and the surrounding landscape. Routes and operating periods vary, so confirm the departure point and current schedule. Choose it only if it fits your base and route.
Snorkel around Adventure only when sea conditions and access are suitable. Use local guidance where currents or reefs are unfamiliar, and never promise particular marine-life sightings. Choose it only if it fits your base and route.
Hike around Mu Ko Chang National Park
Choose a walk around Mu Ko Chang National Park that matches your time, fitness and current conditions. Check the route and weather locally instead of assuming every trail is accessible year-round.
Hiking
2 hours to full day
Relax at White Sand Beach
Spend time at White Sand Beach rather than treating every nearby beach as interchangeable. Swimming conditions, access and facilities can vary, so check locally before entering the water. Choose it only if it fits your base and route.
