OVERVIEW
Kluane is a vast glacial region in south western Yukon, with ice fields, alpine valleys and high peaks extending across protected land. Roads touch only the edges, while flightseeing, guided hikes and river journeys reveal the scale of the interior. Roads and communities remain limited to the lower terrain around the glacial interior. Across the wider area, high peaks remains closely connected with main settlements, rather than forming an isolated visitor zone.
Weather changes quickly and distances are long, but the remoteness preserves exceptional wildlife and silence. Aerial views reveal an interior of ice and peaks that cannot be understood from the highway alone. Guided routes also reveal wildlife and geology that are easy to miss independently. The contrast between river and surrounding landscape becomes clearest when more than one part of the destination is explored.
