OVERVIEW
Isle of Mull is a large island off Scotland’s west coast, with rugged mountains, long sea lochs and widely dispersed settlements. Tobermory provides the main town, while smaller communities occupy remote bays and peninsulas. Eagles, otters and marine mammals are important parts of the natural landscape. The destination is physically divided between coast and mountain terrain, with roads and settlements linking the two.
Driving distances are slow because roads are narrow and winding. Wildlife watching, walking and boat trips provide the main experiences. Staying in one area reduces travel and reveals a quieter local rhythm. Small villages, local cafés and harbour life add cultural depth beyond the wildlife and scenery. Mountain terrain provides the most immediate experience, while island interior offers a quieter and more local perspective.
