OVERVIEW
Islamabad is a planned city on the northern edge of the Potohar Plateau, arranged in broad sectors beneath the Margalla Hills. Government buildings, residential districts and parks occupy a spacious grid. Mosques, museums and viewpoints provide the principal landmarks. The transition between museums and port is visible across the destination, especially away from its best known centre.
Hiking trails begin directly above the city, offering a strong contrast with formal urban districts. Restaurants and markets are spread widely, making transport useful. The capital feels calmer and greener than nearby larger cities. A visit centred only on port would overlook markets, where the wider landscape and local activity remain visible.
