OVERVIEW
Huatulco is a coastal region in southern Mexico, organised around a series of bays with beaches, marinas and protected forest. Resort development is concentrated in selected areas, leaving much of the surrounding coast undeveloped. Small towns and fishing communities provide local services beyond the hotel zones. The destination is physically divided between beaches and coast, with roads and settlements linking the two, with coast providing an additional point of connection.
Boat trips reveal the separate bays and snorkelling sites most effectively. Beach conditions vary between calm coves and more exposed shores. The area feels more spacious than larger resort cities, while inland villages and coffee country provide easy excursions. Beaches draws most attention, but coast contributes equally to the destination’s character and daily life.
