OVERVIEW
Grand Bahama is one of the northernmost large islands in the Bahamas, with pine forest, wetlands and long sandy beaches. Freeport provides the main urban and commercial centre, while resort zones and residential communities spread along the coast. Much of the island remains lightly developed, with mangroves and wetlands providing the wider context. The destination is physically divided between caves and mangroves, with roads and settlements linking the two.
Kayaking, diving and beach time are the main activities, with protected mangroves and underwater caves adding ecological interest. Storm damage has repeatedly affected tourism infrastructure, with caves and coast providing the wider context. Quieter eastern settlements provide a more local contrast with the planned resort areas. Spending time around coast also brings wetlands into view, adding a distinct second layer to the visit.
